A landslide occurred in the Granite Basin area of the municipal - TopicsExpress

A landslide occurred in the Granite Basin area of the municipal watershed this morning at 3:36 am. The resulting mud and debris in the landslide has caused the turbidity of our raw water to become higher than allowable by EPA standards. Until the incoming turbidity again meets EPA standards, the incoming raw water from our watershed is shut off. In the meantime, Ketchikans only supply of thoroughly disinfected drinking water is that amount already stored in our municipal reservoirs located at Bear Valley, Jefferson and other smaller reservoirs throughout the community. Until our raw water source from Ketchikan Lakes is restored and we can again begin refilling these reservoirs with disinfected water, please conserve water wherever possible.
