A lap at Road Atlanta this past weekend. The Passat race car - TopicsExpress

A lap at Road Atlanta this past weekend. The Passat race car fought as hard as it could. I qualified first in class out of seven cars, and I was in first place for the entire race until a competitor passed me illegally under a yellow flag. When I went to pass him back after the caution period, he blocked me off the track. I finished in second place by 1.3 seconds, and I let it happen because I needed to finish the race to qualify for the upcoming Championship race. But we all know second place is the first loser. Yes, I have video of both incidents, and yes I will forward them to the Race Director. BFGoodrich told me the tires would last 8 sessions. In the video the tires have 13 sessions. When I checked after the race, the brake pads fell apart in my hands, and the brake rotors were cracked. In the video you can see me going into turn 10A after the long back straight, and the steering wheel jerks because the left front brake has failed completely. You can hear the stability control cut engine power through turn all of turn 1 after the front straight. I’ve raced more than 200 times in my life, and this was one of the toughest. This was the first race weekend with National Auto Sport Association, and I’m convinced this is the best place for our Passat to compete. Such an impressive organization, and I met so many great people. Most importantly, we now know our Passat can win Pole Positions and win races against tough competition, and there is still so much more potential left ahead of us. Please keep believing.
