A late night (or very early morning) Q&A with Alfonso Chan, who has just finished his 135 miles and headed home yesterday: Q: You ran with Lisa during the first crossing from Badwater to Mount Whitney. What was the most difficult section? A: For me the most difficult section began 35 miles into the course, between Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Wells. The temperature was at its hottest and a searing sand dune wind would blast my face. My lips are burned to a crisp as a result. Despite an overwhelming desire to quit, I pushed on 9 more miles to Stovepipe Wells. Q: What is it like running with Lisa? A: Lisa is a very fast and smooth runner. It’s tough keeping up with her, especially during long, steep climbs. I spent most of my days and nights trying to chase her down. Q: What motivated you to run with Lisa during her first crossing? A: The stark beauty of Death Valley underscores humanity’s need for clean water. So much human suffering results from a lack of clean water. Lisa’s Badwater4GoodWater run is intended to directly improve water conditions and empower advocates to ensure everyone has access to clean water. Q: What were your favorite and least favorite things to eat on the course? A: Favorite: pizza Least Favorite: powdered energy drinks that allegedly have no flavor Q: What is on your iPod playlist? A: My iPod play lists included lots of pop and hip hop (e.g. Katy Perry and Jason Derulo) and old school rap (Run DMC and 2 Live Crew). Well miss Alfonso being part of our team and are grateful for his generous contribution to Lisas cause. Safe travels and thank you! Well see you again at Teton Springs Lodge soon! :)
