A lengthy thought on relationships... As a younger man, I - TopicsExpress

A lengthy thought on relationships... As a younger man, I believed that we, as people, put too much emphasis into relationships. It seemed all my friends and family were frustrated, angry, disappointed, or simply heart broken because of their relationships. Why are we looking so hard to find love? What is it about him/her that youre willing to go to these lengths, change those habits, shun your friends...? I didnt get it. People always asked me for relationship advice. For many years, my advice was simply, Break Up. Why complain when you can just break up? Break up or stop complaining...it seemed like a simple solution to me! However, as Ive grown, I have come to realize that our relationships are a big deal. Agree or disagree, our relationships help define us. They prove what we value and what is worth our time. Our relationships give us life and worry us to death! I still get questions about how to navigate relationships. Today, my advice is different. Not just grounded on observation and experience, but more than anything rooted in Gods Word. You see, I have learned that the Bible is a story about a relationship. Its the story of Gods relationship with His people. Its a story filled with frustration & forgiveness, anger & peace, disappointment & mercy, joy & pain, beauty & ashes, separation & restoration, divorce & reconciliation. Its a LOVE story on one end. Its a FEAR story on the other. Do not live your life being afraid to LOVE because you are afraid to hurt. God promises healing for your broken heart & rebuilding for your ruins. Do not live your life being afraid to LOVE, harboring anger, bitter, because you are afraid that forgiveness will make you look weak. God promises freedom from your affliction. Do not live your life being afraid to LOVE, because youre...afraid. God has given you a sound mind (you can think straight), a spirit of power (the ability to do all things through Christ who gives you strength), and LOVE (the ability to see through the bad and embrace & nourish the good). Love is risky. So is faith. If you say you love, then you must trust. If you say you trust, you must love. Need some relationship advice? Dont take my word for it. Start at Genesis 1:1.
