A lesson on hasad (malicious envy): The incident when Iblees did not obey Allah by prostrating gives us a few lessons, one of which is that Shaytan had envy and arrogance building up for a long period of time for Adam before his envy/jealousy was actually exposed. Hasad/envy can become major and problematic if you allow it to linger in your heart, even on a small-scale. Be content not just with what Allah decreed for you but for what Allah decreed for others. Be content and pleased that Allah has chosen to grant different blessings to His creation. If youre upset that someone has something beautiful and you wish for it to be destroyed, or for the person to lose it, youre waging war in your heart against that which the Creator decreed for someone else. Beware of allowing this disease to afflict you as it was the cause of the downfall of Iblees. May Allah protect us from the diseases of the heart.
