A letter I wrote to IKEA this morning (why do corporations always - TopicsExpress

A letter I wrote to IKEA this morning (why do corporations always have to destroy an original great idea???) Since I moved to the US eleven years ago, Ive always enjoyed visiting IKEA for a quick Im home! feel. But lately the Portland, Oregon store has changed drastically. I feel as if I walk into another plastic Target or, even worse, an underfunded WalMart (both stores that I boycott). Not only did you get rid of all the delicious Swedish foods and replaced them with your less than adequate imitations (I had to throw most them away), now I hear that you fire staff whose only crime is that they happen to have been born in Sweden. I met a friend of mine yesterday. We met originally at IKEA years ago, and I always enjoyed talking to her in Swedish when I visited. Imagine my dismay when I heard that she had been fired. I asked her why, and she said, Who knows, probably because I was the last real Swede to work there. They want to do their own version of Sweden that doesnt exist. I agree with her. Your store has nothing to do with Sweden. Its a sham, an embarrasment to Sweden that boasts some of the best designs the world has to offer. Your store is nothing more than a big box store that offers poor customer service and low quality. It used to be different. Is money really worth it to destroy a concept that worked so well for so long? I remember going to IKEA as a child with my parents. I wont take my children to your store anymore.
