A letter from Catholic professors urging the US Bishops to oppose - TopicsExpress

A letter from Catholic professors urging the US Bishops to oppose the Common Core Standards was shared with me by a friend and I have to say that these bold actions are embarassing to observe, especially when men singing the letter are friends of mine. . First, anyone who thinks that 132 professors makes a big noise doesnt understand how big the world is. There are, for example, 1100 professors at Notre Dame alone. There are 9000 at my alma mater, Rutgers University. Second, the authorities these professors are pretending to wield is nothing more than the fact that they happen to be employed by colleges and universities, most of which are on board with the Common Core Standards. Third, these professors are seeking a Catholic cultural renewal that is to be funded by non-Catholics so that they can (a) be cultural heroes and (b) live like all other academics at the same time. These me dont want to work for cultural renewal as the prophet Ezra did, or as Jesus did, or as St. Benedict did, or as St. Francis did, or as St. Ignatius did. They want to somehow have other people pay the price for them to act like reformers while they sacrifice nothing. Catholic cultural renewal will never happen at the expense of non-Catholics. If it was possible, the Crucifix would not be the symbol of that culture. What culture they are working for is something very different.
