A letter from Cpl Donny Daughenbaugh, Vice President of the Coalition to Salute Americas Heroes. What can I say? It would be my honor to be with our soldiers again and to represent all the quilters. Lets get to work: 60 military families are coming to San Diego. Lets go for 60 quilts. Maybe this time also some extra ones for the children? We now know that the quilts were loved by many family members and those children... they really could use something for themselves as well. They are missing so much with a wounded Mom or Dad! Pillow cases? I love to spoil them... I will go to CA to be with the wounded soldiers again and listen to their stories. Not easy, but I feel strong enough to deal with it. Just like last year in Orlando, I promise you to give you a first impression, from the heart. I hope, I know, that the quilts will make a difference and for some soldiers it will be a turning point in their road to recovery. And thats an incredible blessing... Please share this letter with all your quilting friends and invite them to sew! Heres Donnys letter, for all of you! Dear Carly & Web Fabrics quilters I would like to start this letter by thanking you for your tireless dedication to the American military men & women who have been injured both physically and mentally while serving in the many theaters of combat throughout the Middle East. Most of you haven’t seen the warming of these service members’ hearts, visible by the smile on their face because of your generosity. When these men and women (and their children) receive a hand-made quilt from one of the many quilting customers and supporters from Web Fabrics LLC, they know then and there that America supports them. They know that during hard times, family crisis and even cold nights that they will be kept warm by the gift you’ve stitched into their lives. I thank you for that, we at the Coalition couldn’t do that for them without your help! We have had great successes in giving out these beautiful quilts in the following areas/ways: To the Washington DC Mayor’s office for veterans, to the 90 + families from our last Road to Recovery Conference in Orlando and as far away as Operation Stand Down in Nashville, TN! Your hands are playing a part in the lives of families you’ve never met and likely never will, but they know who you are and are grateful and humbled. I know this is asking a lot but would you and your network of “quilting angels” help ensure that each family at our 7th annual Road to Recovery Conference has a quilt in hand and possibly some “sweet dreams” pillow cases too? I’d love to formally and personally invite Carly to be at this year’s conference to help present these quilts to our nations wounded heroes, will you attend and help to make this happen? The conference is October 5-8 in San Diego, California and I’m sure this won’t be easy but you and your team have proven you are up for the challenge! With warmest regards and much appreciation Donny Daughenbaugh The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes
