A letter in the Telegraph calling for formal schooling to start at six or seven has provoked an outburst from Ministers and over 800 comments from readers. Almost 6,000 people have responded to an online poll, with over half supporting school starting at 6 or 7 so far. Education Minister Elizabeth Truss rubbished the letter writers and accused them of wanting a “learning free world” and promoting a “misguided, regressive, inaccurate, superstitious and dangerous idea”.
