A letter to Sheriff Ed Brown. Sheriff Brown, Sir, I have - TopicsExpress

A letter to Sheriff Ed Brown. Sheriff Brown, Sir, I have several questions and concerns in reference to an incident that has recently taken place within the Sheriff’s Office. For the past twenty-four years that you have been the elected Sheriff of Onslow County, you have touted that you will not stand for any deputy to violate any law of the State of North Carolina. It has come to the attention of many Onslow County residents and myself that an individual within your agency has been using a county issued credit card for personal use. This individual, Captain Jason Daughtry has used the credit card at least 11 times and charged more than $1600.00 to put gas in his personal vehicle. This can be no accident as you have to key in mileage at the gas pump each and every time you use the card. From what I have learned, you have a confession from Captain Daughtry and video evidence of him using this credit card. Captain Daughtry is not even a sworn officer and does normally drives his personal vehicle to work, so why would he require a credit card in the first place? I have also been told that because of this violation of law, Captain Daughtry will be terminated Friday, August 15, 2014. That’s a week from now. Since when does someone who violates a law get a week’s notice that they’re being terminated? You have fired many officers over the years that you stated have violated laws and policies. How many of those officers got notices they were being terminated? I would bet none of them. Is there any truth that you have told officers within your agency that Captain Daughtry doesn’t have the funds available to pay the money back, so you are going to loan him the money? Sheriff Brown, the way I see it, according to the North Carolina General Statutes, Captain Daughtry has committed one of several different crimes. 1. Obtaining Property by False Pretenses 2. Larceny by an Employee 3. Financial Transaction Card Fraud Has this matter been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigation or the District Attorney? If not, it appears that you are covering up the crime yourself, which makes you an accessory. I believe the taxpayers of Onslow County deserve an answer to these questions. Sincerely, Chloe Wilson
