A letter to my community; Dear friends, As you are waking - TopicsExpress

A letter to my community; Dear friends, As you are waking up, news has been trickling in regarding our fellow brothers in Israel, Eyal, Gilad, and Naftali who were kidnapped more than two weeks ago. Unfortunately the news is not good, and multiple sources have confirmed that our boys have been found murdered. At a time when Jews enjoy many freedoms around the world, there should never be a moment that we forget that there are those who want to destroy us, and who attack us without warning. Those that carried out these murders had the sole intentions of breaking us, fracturing us into multiple pieces, and leaving us to put ourselves back together. We have just entered the month of Tammuz, which contains the mourning period called the Three Weeks, beginning on the 17th of Tammuz (July 15) marking the siege of Jerusalem, and ending on the 9th of Av, Tisha BAv (August 5) marking the destruction of both temples that stood in Jerusalem. Today we are reminded that no matter that 2000 years have passed since our current exile began, our pain and our suffering has not abated. As we have rallied together the world over in the hopes that our brethren will be returned to us safe and sound, let us continue to show our enemies that we have incredible unity in the face of strife. Let us show them that they will not break our resolve, they will not destroy us today nor tomorrow, and they will not win. We need to stand together, and strengthen ourselves, we will weather this storm as we have weathered others before it. Let us pray on behalf of these souls, that they are given their place in the kingdom of heaven. Let us pray for the nechama, the comfort, of their parents and all of the House of Israel, and all those who their stories have touched. Unfortunately our period of mourning has arrived early, but we continue as always to hope that brighter days will appear on the horizon, and that we will merit to see our coming redemption speedily in our days. Amen! With condolences, Rabbi Alon Meltzer
