A liberal friend recently posted "What if Jesus meant what he said about the poor?" Uh-huh. So that means we should all sell our cloaks and buy swords? He said that one too. Jesus was not a literal speaker. He was a storyteller. But Americans in general have this bad habit of cherrypicking things to get absolutely literal about while waving the others off. The difference between an American liberal and an American conservative is which parts of the Bible you cherrypick to take in an overly literal fashion not intended by the original speaker or the authors who subsequently wrote it down.
