A library is more than a collection of books and periodicals, what about computer access, job support, films and recorded music, recorded books for the blind, support for students or researchers, isolated Mothers with young children (every mother knows what I am talking about here) ..but more than any of that, Libraries are one of only a handful of places that are free and offer an essential life line to many people and its not always anything to do with books. Our Libraries offer a place to meet, to be warm and for some it is the reason why some people even leave their homes everyday. Much like the cuts /slashes and even closures of Day care for the elderly and disabled, Children’s centres, social services the list is growing where are all these people going to go and why should so many people lose their jobs. We need more jobs, more people paying into the pot that Government are slashing not back door redundancies! I’m all for volunteering but when jobs are scrapped how can the Third Sector be expected with their own cuts in funds to plaster these appalling cuts..sorry rant over x
