A link about opossums shared by the National Association for Interpretation Region 2 Chesapeake on their facebook page prompted me to do a little research. Im a geologist, but Im slowly learning about animals and plants. Three possum facts I found amazing: they are resistant to snake venom, they arent good hosts for the rabies virus, and playing possum is not an option for them (its an involuntary startle reflex). I like that the only marsupial in the US is called the VIRGINIA opossum because that is where it was first recognized.
