A little Halloween treat... Ebony knocked and knocked, rang the door bell, repeatedly and still, there was no answer. She then reached for the door knob and opened the door. She walked into a scene that would forever be embedded in her mind. She gasped for air, held her hand over her mouth and stepped into the foyer. Marleys body was draped over Nicoles body on the hardwood floor; clearly her body was positioned that way on purpose. The living room was a mess. Cushions from the couch had been sliced and pages from books were scattered on the floor. The scent of Jasmine Vanilla filled the air, obviously to mask the stench that the dead bodies had created, as they lie in a puddle of dried blood, awaiting to be discovered. The sight, not only brought tears to Ebonys eyes, but it caused her to fall to her knees as soft cries were trying to make their way out of her. Her mouth was open but no sound came out. Nothing. Ebony began to sob, slowly at first and then uncontrollably. The tears ran down the sides of her face, non stop while she reached out to her friends. She reached out to them as if they could reach back out to her but there was no reaching back. Her friends were gone, gone for good and never returning. Their vessels lied on the cold, hardwood floor and nothing was going to bring life back into their lifeless bodies. Ebony couldnt muster up enough strength to pull herself up, no strength to stand. But she did manage to grab her phone that was in her coat pocket. She dialed 911 and began screaming into the phone for someone, anyone to answer. What took only a few seconds, seemed like an eternity to Ebony. “911, please state your emergency?” The 911 operator responded. “My friends are dead! Please, I need help! They are dead!” Ebony was screaming into the phone and crying hysterically. “Ma’am, what is your name? Please state your name?” “My name is Ebony Johnson. And my friends are dead!” “I need you to try and calm down so that I may be able to understand you. I can’t assist you if I can’t understand what you are saying. I need you to tell me what happened, Ebony? Can you tell me what happened?” The operator spoke in a soft tone. “I don’t know what happened. I found them this way. Dead.” Ebony responded. *To be continued* ©Adelina Gonzalez
