A little Paris Story. The other day Isaac and I came across a really cool looking jewelry boutique as we were exploring the Canal Saint Martin area. We had just finished having some delicious grub at a Mexican cantina and were wandering aimlessly from one door to the next as we went up and down the tiny streets. I was attracted to this jewerly shop right away. The outside of the shop was painted black but the inside was warm with wood floors, white paint, and lots of cactus scattered about (Cactus are one of my favourite plants). Within the shop there were these incredible handcrafted pieces all unique and made right in house. We could see the indoor workshop as we walked into the boutique and it was really cool to see all of the tools and pieces that they used on each creation. After speaking with the shopkeeper we learned that all pieces are made in Paris and they are quite well known for their collaborations. The website says (excuse the translation, they arent always the best on English versions of websites here): “Following numerous collaborations with big fashion names such as Christian Lacroix, Agnèsb, and Colette, Medecine Douce continues designing in its Parisian workshop collaborating with French craftsmen: feather-makers, flower-makers, enamellers and embroiderers. With them, Medecine Douce creates products using mixtures of unexpected materials, constantly revitalized in a chic and bohemian spirit.” I was pretty stoked to learn about the different types of collaborations and how the final product ends up. It’s neat to think about diverse creatives connecting and establishing something new using their own areas of expertise. I love seeing how that translates into what they make (feather makers to embroiderers for example). Right away you can how these collaborations really add to the personality of each piece. After roaming the store for some time I came across a quirky and delicate piece that I just fell in love with. It’s so light and pretty but reminds me of a pennant banner that you might find at a party or celebration of some kind. I loved that the piece was feminine but not over the top and that banner shape was a subtle reminder of a good time. You could wear the bracelet with with a nice dress for date night or even just wear it with jeans and a t-shirt. I knew coming to Paris that I wanted a nice reminder of this trip. Something that I could have with me for a long time and anchor me back to these incredible memories. I left the store thinking to myself that I would check my budget and see how things go. A roof over my head is far more important than a token of my time here and I figured it would be best to buy any kind of special ‘remembrance’ item towards the end of my trip. This afternoon though, Isaac told me to close my eyes and handed me a small bag with a drawstring top. When I turned it around, I saw the name of the boutique across the bottom and inside found my bracelet (!!!). He had gone out and bought it when he went skateboarding with our friend Everett earlier in the week. The bracelet is still incredible and I really do love it so so much...but the thoughtfulness behind it absolutely blows me away. Now, the bracelet is more special than ever and I couldnt be more grateful and truthfully knocked off my feet by kindness. So, all that to say...here is my brand new Paris memory anchor in all her glory. Thanks Isaac...Holy smokes! :)
