A little Sunday evening... One of our New Years Resolutions this - TopicsExpress

A little Sunday evening... One of our New Years Resolutions this year was to do a Weekly Menu for the house which includes a planned out weeks worth of dinners. This turned out to be the best thing weve done in a long time. We had talked about it but never actually gone through with it. WOW. Everyone should do this. We planned a weeks worth of menus, went to the store, and now were set. At first you might think to yourself, Some of us cant afford to do this. I am here to tell you that after just one week, I dont think you can afford not to. Think about all the impulse buying you fall victim to when you go to the store looking for something for dinner that night. You might find yourself in different parts of the store getting things you didnt need. Also, dont split up! This increases your chances of you or your partner getting extra crap. There is none of that with this. You simply plan out courses including something light for dessert. (A small cup of applesauce is a staple for all meals). You know exactly what you need, you get in, and get out. Tonight we had Oven roasted chicken, fresh asparagus, rice pilaf, applesauce, and homemade peach cobbler for dessert. The meal turned out to be several dollars less than most of our unplanned meals in the past including of course going out to eat. Every Sunday evening we sit down, we plan out a week of dinners and thats that. Its fun, it brings you together, and there is a dry erase board on the fridge for the kids to suggest items theyd like to see. This menu should be one that you stick to once its planned. Straying from it defeats the purpose. Its a great opportunity to try different varieties of foods as well as a great segway for introducing new and different foods to you children... and save a LOT of money with smart planning. For example, when the kids are some where else for dinner that night we might do something lighter, or on Thursdays we do Pot Luck. That uses up any leftovers from the prior days. You can even throw an Out to eat on there once in a while. Have fun with it! If you have suggestions or variations.. add them in the comments if you like. #breathoffreshair
