A little bit of history for the hell of it: Vito Russo interviews - TopicsExpress

A little bit of history for the hell of it: Vito Russo interviews Barbara Gittings and Harry Hay in 1983. (This was about the same time I interviewed Harry Hay for Gay Community News.) What he doesnt talk about here is his long history of leftist activism before Mattachine, his membership in the Communist Party and his resignation from it, the dramatic split in Mattachine in the mid-50s, fueled in part by anti-communism. He talks about all this and more in a famous interview in Jonathan Katzs Gay American History, published in 1976, which introduced Barbara Gittings and him to a new generation of gay people. (Its a book more people should read.)
