A little eavesdrop for you from my Date Night with Reese: Reese: (Exaggerated whispering) Aunt Marcia, (yes, he has now learned to put the r in my name) I have something very, very important to tell you. Me: What is it? Reese: (Still whispering) Im a super secret agent, top secret, Reese, spy! Me: Wow! Thats pretty amazing! (Trying not to crack up) How long have you been this? Reese: 50, 100, Thousand weeks. Me: Buddy, You havent been alive that many weeks. There are only 52 weeks in a year and you are 5 years old so... You havent been alive that many weeks. Reese: You wanna know something? Me: Sure! Reese: Ive been a super secret agent for 1 week! Me: One week. Thats all? Reese: No! Thats a lot, a lot of weeks! Me: How many? Reese: Like, a LOT! Me: Oh! (Whispering too) Can you tell me some things youve spied on? Reese: Sure! (At this point Im expecting his imagination to yield some wild spying adventure like seeing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle eating giant marshmallows under his bed. Not at all prepared for his actual reply...) Reese: Ive spied on YOU! Me: Oh my goodness! (A little worried now if there could be any truth to this super secret agent spy thing. LOL!!!) Me: How did you find out you were a spy? Reese: I just knew. Me: You didnt receive any kind of official letter? I mean like, who do you report to on your findings? Reese: You wanna know who I report to? Me: Sure. Reese: I report to you! (Since Im the one being spied on, thats a bit of a relief! LOL!) Me: You report to me? ...Well, why havent I known you were a spy for all these years? Reese: Because I didnt tell you! (Oh, thats right... Its TOP SECRET!) ROFL! This dialogue continued in whispered tones for the whole ride home from our date. Once inside our adjoining abodes, Reese reminded me to write him a note and slip it under his door (Something I do on a regular basis.) Tonight, I was really tired and was in the middle of trying to help him settle down for the night. I said, Reese, Ill have to see. Besides, If I write you a note every night, it wont be special. He says, You wanna know what I think is special? I paused from my compulsive straightening of the room and turned to look at him. What?, I answered. He says, You. (Me: No reply...Tears in my throat.) Tomorrow is Friday and everyone loves Fridays, but Thursdays are definitely special to me! Love that sweet little great-nephew of mine! P.S. As soon as I retired to my side of the house, I wrote Reese a note and slipped it under his bedroom door.
