A little help from my friends (Latest from the blog!) People have told me they’re surprised at how open I’ve been about needing help to refocus and rebrand my business. Helping people find their own words, discover their own clarity, and write their own websites – it’s what I do, and I do it very well. But a massage therapist can’t work effectively on her own body. The best life or business coach in the world knows the value of hiring a coach for herself, because she knows how blind she is to her own stumbling blocks. And there’s an old saying that the doctor who treats herself has a fool for a patient. As entrepreneurs, we can only ever see the internal view of our work. Even with the empathic ability to imagine our clients’ experience, we still need help to see our work clearly enough to write the words that will speak from our hearts to the hearts and minds of our audience. If I tried to pretend that somehow I was different from my clients – from you who may be in a place of utter frustration about writing the story of your work – I would not only be lying, but I would be doing you a severe disservice. My whole point is that this is *normal.* So normal that even those of us who do the work of helping others … need help ourselves. There’s no reason for me to pretend that I didn’t need help, and will need help again in the future. There’s no reason for you to feel as if something is wrong because you can’t seem to get the words to come out right. We both get to have help. And that’s a good thing.
