A little kindness goes a long way. I was at Target yesterday and after checking out was following an older couple who were moving slowly. He was leaning on the handle of the cart as he walked and you could see he had bad legs. When they got to where you pick up carts, he pushed the cart over and started to try and walk but could only take a couple steps. He grabbed another empty cart and used it to walk out. But now he had a quandary, the cart corral was across from his car. I had talked to them on the way out and told him there are days like that and you need the cart for support. He smiled and said Yes Maam. When I noticed him putting the cart in the corral, I was already at my car. I saw him start to struggle as he walked. I called out to him I was coming to help and he said thats OK but i could see it wasnt. The TG ran in her heels, leaving her cart (and purse) to give him a shoulder. It took all of 30 seconds and he was so grateful just for that little support. Again he called me maam and I hurried back to my cart and purse (which luckily no one had messed with). But I thought, as I always do, that 10 people walked by this man, a couple were annoyed that these people were holding up their day. Not one asked if he needed help except me. Not one smiled at him and his wife. They didnt care. You know someday that could be me, barely able to walk or maybe not seeing well or having trouble breathing. So maybe when that day come some nice younger person will help me out. If it happens we will call it karma. If it doesnt, I will just feel better about myself over how those annoyed people felt.
