A little known fact - even in Canada - is that the Gold Mining Company polluted the whole area for generations to come - with Arsenic Trioxide. They gave the Dene people no credit for showing them where the gold was and paid them no royalties even though the mines are on Dene land. First Nations people have died from the pollution left by the Mining Company. The family of the first child who died was paid $750 for the loss of their son. The Mining Company declared bankruptcy and deeded the mines to the Canadian Federal government - leaving taxpayers to pay for the disposal of 250,000 tons of highly toxic Arsenic Trioxide powder in the mines. This toxin is so potent that a piece the size of an Aspirin will kill a human within hours of ingestion. The estimated cost of the cleanup is upwards of $9 Billion dollars. The Canadian governments stop-gap solution is to freeze the toxic powder in situ -- which will probably be about as successful as the Ice Wall supposed to contain the radioactive water at Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan. In other words they are letting the Mining Companies off the hook while pretty much writing a death warrant for the Canadians and First Nations people living around Yellowknife. Arsenic Hydroxide is extremely water soluble and should water flood into the mine (which from some video footage - looks like it already has) it would be carried by brooks, streams and lakes into the Fraser River - a main source of drinking water for many hundreds of thousands of Canadians. Im not making this up. Google it if you wish. Investigation HÉRITAGE TOXIQUE YellowKnife Contamination des premières Nations
