A little over 5 1/2 years ago I found myself laid off work due to a downturn in the economy. I sat at home depressed, grieving the loss of my son, Tatum (Tate). I held onto a blanket that he had been wrapped in at the hospital and, with nothing else to do, I decided to pick up a crochet hook and some yarn that I had left over from making a baby blanket for Tate...a blanket he was supposed to be wrapped in on his way home from the hospital but was instead wrapped in for burial. It was a cold winter day and I felt better knowing my son was warm in the blanket I had made. Sitting there with hook in hand I decided to make a few baby blankets to donate to the hospital where Tate was born. That same day I spoke with my best friend Michele Sodee Cyrek and told her what I was going to do. She suggested that I start a website and see if anyone would donate yarn for the blankets. I took her suggestion and created Forever Warm. I had no idea then just how big my little charity would grow (over 24 different chapters in about 12 states) and how many people would join me in my spiritual journey to help other grieving parents with the simple token of a handmade blanket to wrap their child in and a small note that if they need to talk to someone that understands their grief they could contact me. Today, on Tates 6th birthday I am distributing 180 blankets to 4 hospitals in my area. Thank you so much to everyone that has supported me through my journey. I love you all. A special thank you to Angela Smith Schwartz who is my largest donor and sends me so many beautiful blankets to take to the hospitals.
