A little pointy-headed intellectualizing here, if you will: We as a nation seem to harbor a lot of internal social distortion (to coin a term) within our ranks. Im talking old-school, race engendered fear and prejudice. This distortion becomes manifest in situations like the Michael Brown case in Ferguson, MO... there is no way to file the killing of an unarmed citizen, whatever their station or demeanor, under the Maintaining Order heading. That officer shot that kid until he was sure he was dead. We might want to know what he was thinking, exactly. Its not for no reason that large-scale protests like this occur (it happened in Miami before when I was living there, same reasons-- remember the McDuffy case?). The incensed response to this from all corners is, at its base, justified. And the fact is that its been allowed to escalate and become the scene we see today. Seems to me a little Tao mightve gone a long way from the outset here.
