A little self-reflection time: It is incredible how one person (and their website) can positively impact your life and help you exceed your own expectations. :) As I just approached my 59th country, I thought it was time to thank Kate McCulley for her website: Adventurous Kate :D While swapping travel stories about my own travels, I always acknowledge Kate and her influential site (and tell the story of how I stumbled upon her page while working on a ship in Trinidad in late 2010). Most of you will remember that after Trinidad and a short holiday in Tobago, I took my first long holiday of 3.5 months in 2011 - voyaging around Africa, Europe, Caribbean, Central America, and parts of North America. All of this would not have been possible if I had not seen her website. Sure, I may have decided at a later time in my life to start traveling, but I would have never started a South Africa itinerary during that particular research project. I know many of my good mates were/are encouraged to check out her website at one time or another; while I know a fair amount of friends & family likes her travel page on Facebook. It is always nice to know where my travel interests had begun, especially since I know that all of you enjoy my photography, videos, and travel stories. Though we never met, she has become a close friend of mine - her recent engagement has a beautiful love story (I encourage you to check out her site and read about her magical night in Malta), and I wish her & Mario the best! :D Recently she told me while traveling in Kosovo that I travel more than anyone that she knows! I take this as a complement - and look back at how one single solo traveler has completely changed the way that I look at the world! I am stoked about accomplishing my ultimate travel goal to venture to 150 countries and spend my 35th birthday on my final continent of Antarctica! :P It is always nice to take a moment and thank those that you idolize - thank you Kate for giving me the push and confidence that I needed to become an International Travelingmarinebiologist! We definitely will meet one day, and swap our travel stories! Safe travels! Much love from Walvis Bay, Namibia! :D xoxo
