A load of seasoned eucalyptus firewood ready to be delivered to Riverside customers by Leighton Service Company, abt. 1965. Delivered and dropped $20 a cord. Stacking was $2 more. Pictured is beloved employee, Ray Kirchner. Ray was a WWII vet who fought in the pacific, earning Oak Leaf Cluster for bravery. Sadly, Rays only home was a primitive shelter built under the branches of a large navel orange tree in North Riverside. He couldnt be convinced to dwell anywhere else. When we went out of the firewood business, he worked for the Fox Wood Yard, which I believe was out on North Main. He drove a old 50tys, bathtub shaped Nash car. Im wondering if anyone else here remembers this great vet from the greatest generation.
