A local Haitian activist made a post on Facebook regarding the swift execution of this new immigration policy by the Bahamas Government, but out of the countless number of posts, a lady who obviously has already been sorted out to move on to another country made a comment that I found very disturbing. She stated that the Haitian Embassy was sitting idly by and allowing THE BAHAMAS to enact such policies because it requires Haitians in the Bahamas to get a Haitian Passport which is revenue for Haiti. She went on to say that Haiti should not accept the Haitian children who would be repatriated with their illegal parents and that they should at least be allowed to complete their vaccination, school and be allowed to applied. Now, my challenge with these comments are as follows: 1. My birth right as a Bahamian is a Heritage that should never simply be handed out because someone submits an application and tows a line. It is the heritage my forefathers left for me. 2. No country should be allowed to dictate to the Bahamas because we are a SOVERGN NATION! We are an independent nation and the role of a diplomatic envoy is to facilitate bipartisan relationships on specific matters and to provide consular services for visitors and nationals of that country living in a foreign land. No way is that agency given the right to facilitate policy direction in the host country. THEY WOULD BE TOTALLY OUT OF ORDER! So yes, the Embassy must sit by and simply do nothing about it because they have not right. Their job is to help prepare their country and patriots prepare for the change. 3. There is no way one should have a right to my social provisions when in effect, they committed a crime and came here illegally. There is cost associated with vaccination and education. Your government (HAITI) isnt helping with any of it. It is not fair for me to be made to educate your kin to the detriment of my own. The economy is strained and a lot of Bahamians finding themselves out of private schools and utilizing the government system and it is already strained as it is because of the large number of foreign nationals. Furthermore, if I know correctly, the law requires that children of foreign parents should be enrolled in private institutions and not Government. Free education is the right to Bahamians. The Chinese and Africans follow the rules, what happen to the other nationalities? See, we could be at this for the longest trying to justify this foolishness, but the truth of the matter is, YOU CAME HERE THE WRONG WAY! You did not go to my embassy, apply for a visa, work permit or residency - jump on an air craft and come here with proper clearances. Instead, you paid thousands, risked your life on rough seas and just came whether or not we were prepared for you. THAT IS UNFAIR TO US!
