A local genetic testing company that was trying to recruit me said that they were applying machine learning techniques to billing insurance companies, so its no surprise to me that billing is 40% of doctors overhead. Plus, when you break the association with the insurance companies, they lose all control over what you can charge for procedures, so theres no need to bill for every little thing. Unlike doctors, the patient only has to deal with ONE insurance company, so theyre in a better position to figure out how best to submit expenses. If they bother at all; when they dont have to bill insurance companies, doctors can charge less, and many people may find that the majority of procedures arent costly enough to be worth the bother.
