A long topic circling around in my head this late hour. For those who watch the business news, pay attention to what happens to CEO pay and stock holders dividends when any company switches to more part time workers. This may be great for a short term solution to productivity slumps but it has a long term harm to the welfare of America because you have all these people who can no longer buy your products. The impact of temporary workers on our economy is staggering. The number of temporary workers has grown by more than 50 percent since the recession ended to nearly 2.7 million. If freelancers, contract workers, and consultants are included, the number is nearly 17 million workers not directly employed by the companies who hire them. This equals 12 percent of the workforce. Our giants of industry have just started going down this path for thirty years and it drives me crazy. I seldom get excited when I read some CEO only made 25 million last year but he is now making 75 million knowing what is happening to the men and women who do the labor. The sacrifice of the many for the gain of a few. Maybe it has always been that way.
