A long day for our 7 varsity players today in a four-way scrimmage - TopicsExpress

A long day for our 7 varsity players today in a four-way scrimmage at Grand Valley. Some lessons learned, as always -- were not in basketball shape, yet, and its showing in your shooting and transition, especially on the defensive side of things. At this point, our defense is most definitely ahead of our offense, which is normal. With Jessica Becker, we are able to run the old Anita Jurcenko pressbreaker -- get the ball to Jessica and git yo butt down the floor because shes got this! Good to see Dee drain a couple of jumpers from the wing. Shes working her way back into things. Shes playing catchup, but shes healthy and -- as always -- shes playing very hard. So happy to see Sarah Brook enjoy success in this, her senior season. Shes worked very hard and doesnt give an inch. Shes become a leader. Our other senior, Colleen OConnor, is growing more and more restless by the day as she allows her stress fracture to heal. Colleens grit, determination and toughness are definitely missed and her return will provide a real shot in the arm. Emily is in the middle of morphing from being a complementary player to a lead role. The game will slow down for her, soon. Raquel, Shawna and Natalie are also in that transition period of moving up from JV to varsity. Right now, it appears complicated for them, but soon enough, they will settle into a comfort zone. As for my poor JVs, Ill give them credit -- they sat there for two hours and watched and, please dear Lord, hopefully learned by watching the varsity apply what I am attempting to help them learn. All it took was a bag of candy, a pack of gum and putting one in timeout for a brief time to keep them (mostly) focused and awake. Great to see former Falcon standouts Sarah Busch (Class of 2013) and Callie Busch (Class of 2008) on hand today. Sarah even wore her shooting shirt. :) Tonight, many of the gals will gather to celebrate Emilys 16th birthday in Roaming Shores. A good time will most assuredly be had by all! Off day tomorrow, back at it Monday, 3-5, with the fall banquet later that night. Only home scrimmage of the season Tuesday vs. Lordstown -- both varsity and JV -- starting at 5:30. Have a great rest of the weekend, Falcon Nation... happy birthday, Emily!
