A long time fan posted on our wall asking to share how we make our wipe on polyurethane, so here ya go. We take 2 Dixie cups of poly, and one Dixie cup of mineral spirits and mix in a container, we use Dixie cups then throw them away, and its easy to adjust the amount if finish youll be using. Then we sand the project with 220 grit sand paper, stain, allow to dry. Next, we add 4 coats of our poly, we do not sand between coats. After the fourth coat dries, we sand lightly with 320 grit, clean with a tack cloth and apply one more coat, there ya go. Your finish will not fail, if youve followed these steps. If you dont thin your poly (use it straight out of the can) it will most likely fail. Weve been using this method for many years, and your results should look like this cherry panel, now ready to be installed at Holy Comforter Episcopal School. Keep making sawdust ;) Dont forget, turn those poly cans up-side down.
