A longitudinal study in the United States found that individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders were more likely to choose the science, technology, engineering or mathematics fields if they enrolled in university. However, their college enrolment rate was the third lowest among the 11 categories of disability and students in the general population (Wei, Yu, Shattuck, McCracken and Blackorby, 2013).
