A look at the Gospel writers Luke and John. Luke was a Greek slave trained to be a physician, in order to have a doctor in your house, wealthy persons often sent one of their intelligent slaves off to medical school. Luke was given this task, which served him well on his journeys with the apostle Paul. Luke, is the only gentile who has contributed to the Bible. He was very meticulous and gives us details that we only get in Lukes Gospel, like the parable of the good Samaritan, and the prodigal son he also, tells us of the servant Malkus, whose ear Christ placed back on his head in the garden of Gethsemane. He was interested in things like that, he was a doctor. Since Luke wasnt one of Christs handpicked apostles, he tells us of his meticulous investigation of all the matters concerning Christ, wanting to write things about what took place during Christs ministry. The certainty, which means, your feet cant slip, these things are true and on solid ground. Hes writing to Theophilus, which means, lover of God, or God loved, I guess that could mean any of us. He writes about Christ the man, so his genealogy goes all the way back to Adam. Luke 1:3-4 NIV [3] With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, [4] so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. Its important to know who our Gospel writers, it makes reading them a lot more interesting.
