A look back at 2014: 2014 was a pivotal year for me I turned 40 yo and had my second son Noah was born. The two events obviously had a serious impact on me, getting older is scary, I wanted to fight destiny and prove that AGE IS NOTHING BUT A NUMBER. A second son means more responsibility and less time to train or compete. I had to come up with solutions in order to comply with my father role and duties and also to stay on top of my game. Looking back 2014 was a good if not a great year as I managed thanks to some additions and changes to face my daily challenges, Learn new things and achieve my goals. 1-Time management and knowledge: when you have little time because of your obligations you dont want to waste a minute. How do you make time? One way to make time is to plan, to be better prepared, to hit the gym floor with a plan, a WINNING routine. How do you design a WINNING ROUTINE? Very simple, by being knowledgeable or More knowledgeable. I spent the year reading, each and everyday about subjects related to fitness and nutrition and the first main thing I learnt is THAT I KNEW FAR LESS THAN I BELIEVED. This above statement led me to stop doing exercises I was not sure about the correct execution of. Obviously I STOPPED TRYING TO TEACH these exercise to OTHERS. Secondly, I focused more on my technique and on doing the exercises that I dont like but know that are important. Finally I spread the word and promoted discussion in order to have different point of view and keep on learning. 2-Ego and Classes: the day I realised that I WAS A PEACOCK... I swear I thought I was a normal guy... We were in a HIIT CLASS doing a workout, I was leading with no much time left, so I started to waste time AND I LOST BY A REP... On that day I learnt that I am better chasing people than leading, in other words, for me to work my HARDEST, I need to feel against the ropes, I NEED TO FEEL THAT I CAN LOSE. THE CLASSES have been a life saver, as mentioned above, with the birth of my second Son Noah, I couldnt train or compete in BJJ. The classes were my BATTLEGROUND, but I had to create an atmosphere that would make me improve. I decided to leave my EGO at home and start working out with more and MORE WEIGHT. I WAS READY TO FIGHT, KNOWING THAT I HAD GREAT CHANCES TO LOSE. EVERY TIME I TRAIN, I DONT KNOW IF I AM GOING TO WIN THE WORKOUT. WHAT I AM SURE ABOUT IS THAT I GIVE 100% SO I IMPROVE. IN SEPTEMBER I STARTED THE WORKOUTS WITH 50KG IN DECEMBER IN MY LAST SESSION, I WORKED OUT WITH 70KG. LADIES AND GENTS, YOU SOMETIMES NEED TO LOSE BATTLES IN ORDER TO WIN THE WAR. 3-Injuries and failures: I always thought of myself as a smart boy. Truth is that I didnt treat my body well. I love to run and enjoy to Bench press BUT I EACH AND EVERY TIME I DO ONE OR THE OTHER, I GET INJURED. I DECIDED TO QUIT ON BOTH, EVER SINCE, I HAD NO SHOULDERS OR CALF INJURIES. The message is clear, we exercise to get better NOT WORSE, if something doesnt work for you, REMOVE IT FROM YOUR ROUTINE. MY last but important discovery is The importance of failures. Failures are natural and part of the game but we tend to ignore them. We need to learn from our failures as they teach us what we need to change, they make us better. To make a long story short 2014 was a great year in the personal, professional and at a fitness level. I dont believe in New you, I BELIEVE IN THE REAL YOU. WE ARE WHAT WE EAT, WHAT WE TRAIN, WHAT WE DO. IN ORDER TO LIVE THE DREAM AND NOT TO DREAM OUR LIVES, WE HAVE TO CHANGE OR BETTER OUR HABITS. GETTING BETTER IS TO DITCH WHAT DOES NOT WORK AND DO WHAT IS HEALTHY AND RIGHT, NOT FROM TIME TO TIME BUT MOST OF THE TIME IF NOT EVERY TIME. THE CHANCE WE HAVE IS THAT WE HAVE EACH OTHER, THE TRAIN FOR LIFE COMMUNITY. WE ARE A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO SHARE COMMON VALUES AND LOVE FOR FITNESS. AS SUCH WE HAVE TO INSPIRE, SUPPORT EACH OTHER TO BECOME BETTER INDIVIDUAL AND BETTER ATHLETE.
