A lot of AFL history represented yesterday when the Tennessee - TopicsExpress

A lot of AFL history represented yesterday when the Tennessee Titans (of Bud Adams/Houston Oilers lineage); put a thumping on my Kansas City Chiefs (of Lamar Hunt/Dallas Texans lineage). I have to wonder what the NFL would look like today had the Dallas Oil Millionaire who dreamed up the AFL idea not had the enthusiastic support of the Houston Oil Millionaire who basically said Hell yeah it will work!! When I see the Chiefs and Titans on the same field I see: 1. The bedrock of the AFL 2. The original champions of the first 3 seasons of the AFL (Oilers/Titans; Back to Back Champs: 1960-1961; and my hometown Texans/Chiefs; 1962). 3. The participants in the one of the greatest games in Professional Football History; the Double Overtime 1962 AFL Championship game; won by Dallas own Texans/(Chiefs) over the two time defending Champion Houston Oilers (Titans) 20-17. (Sad note: Due to the long shadow cast in Big D by the Dallas Cowboys; the NFLs afterthought 1960 Expansion team whose purpose in being was to drive the AFL Dallas Texans out of town; there are likely only a minority of Dallas folk today who realize that our AFL Dallas Texans won the longest Championship game in the history of professional football) 4. At the same time; the rematch of the final game that the Dallas Texans ever played. (See 3 above) 5. And finally; as a typical Texan long on pride and short on diplomacy: It grated on my nerves to be reminded of the unbelievable fact that the AFL; which was Texas born and was the location of the original AFL League offices (Dallas; another tid bit of info the average Dallas sports fan is likely ignorant of today); now has NO TEXAS REPRESENTATION due to the relocation of the Texans to KC (wise move; had to to survive) and the eventual relocation of the Oilers to Tennessee (Adams proved to be a disappointment; he blocked the faithful Houston fans from ever reclaiming their Oilers blue and their proud heritage). A lot of rich AFL history yesterday..... Oh; and then there was the Raiders and the Jets. I turned it off with less than 2 minutes left and read about it today.... for old times sake....
