A lot of attention is being focused on the cold and snow potential - TopicsExpress

A lot of attention is being focused on the cold and snow potential for late next week/next weekend but, as I have mentioned a couple of times, wind may also be of a concern (no crude jokes please ;-) ). This image from the GFS model on meteociel for next Friday paints a nasty picture with a deep area of low pressure passing over the north of the UK. This would bring some strong or even very strong winds and when combined with wintry showers could lead to some blizzard conditions, especially over high ground in the north. Often the models do overdo these systems so fingers crossed that this is the case but this does need watching. images.meteociel.fr/im/7118/gfs-0-156_nyx2.png I am still very much thinking that this will be a short lived cold blast with the highest risk of wintry conditions being across some northern areas but there are still some uncertainties regarding the depth of the cold (as mentioned before, we often end up with a less deeply cold plunge than the model output suggests this far out) and how far south the coldest air will get, and there is the small chance that the coldest conditions may slip to the east of the UK. No change to my current thoughts but it remains an uncertain outlook so please check back for updates.
