A lot of good news at the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut’s meeting this morning – unemployment in eastern Connecticut remains at its lowest point since November 2008, and some of the region’s largest employers are hiring. Last week, Electric Boat announced it would be hiring 600 new workers this year, thanks to continuing production of Virginia Class submarines, design work on the Ohio Replacement, and maintenance work on the current fleet. Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are investing in new restaurants and facilities, and Pfizer continues to support good research jobs. It was great to hear about so many projects in eastern Connecticut - we still have a lot of work to do, but I am confident these are signs of movement in the right direction.
