A lot of people on Facebook the last day or two have been posting blurbs falsely accusing Faux Nieus of editing a protesters chant to make it sound like it said We wont stop! We cant stop! So kill a cop! On cell block! Not so. Ive carefully listened to the original video many times, and Ive now also made cleaned-up audio extractions of the original in 3 different speeds and pitches, and what the lead protestor and the other protesters were *actually* saying was the following: Leader: We wont stop! Crowd: We wont stop! Leader: We cant stop! Crowd: We cant stop! Leader: So kill a cop! Crowd: Til killer cops! Leader: On cell block! Crowd: On cell blocks! However, I can now see what the lead protester was *trying* to say, and what he *meant* by it. What he actually said was So kill a cop! On cell block! What he was *trying* to say was So killer cops! On cell blocks! But, he had a New York (or similar) accent in which r sounds are elided, so killer came out kill-a (thats how they say killer in New York). And what he *meant* was, We cant and wont stop until all the killer cops are in cell blocks! But between his New York accent, his strained voice, his adrenaline, and the distortion of the megaphone, it came out So kill a cop! On cell block! Did Faux Nieus mininterpret this? Yes. Did they do it on purpose? No, I dont think so. In this case, it was easy to misinterpret what the protester with the megaphone was saying.
