A lot of you know Im an atheist. There was a point in my life when I was what you might call a militant atheist. I was an obnoxious prick who ridiculed the most innocent of beliefs. I dont ever want to be that person again. I feel particularly sorry for the kind, understanding, and moral individuals of all differing religions who get collectively lumped in with hateful people and violent religious zealots of the same religion. I dont ever want to ridicule people for their religious beliefs as long as those beliefs dont cause physical harm to anyone or ruin the lives of others. With that being said, I think its important to protect any and all freedom of speech and expression regardless of the consequences or offense. Satire, humor, and ridicule is the most powerful tool against the ridiculous and dangerous. It can turn the most terrifying of ideas and authority figures into nothing more than a Saturday morning cartoon. I try to be respectful of all religions now but I will forever and always be 100% supportive of everyones right to ridicule any authority and dangerous idea. The final test of truth is ridicule.
