A magnificent, compelling recital by my now-retired colleague William DeVan at BSC tonight. Bach Toccata in C Minor and Beethoven Sonata Op. 110 brought the depth to the first half, then the chills and thrills of Liszts Harmonies du soir and Mazeppa following intermission, and the amazing Prokofiev 7th Sonata to close it out. For thirty years, Bills dedication to teaching and performing helped make our department a place of inspiration and aspiration, and I am grateful to him.
