A major problem is the majority of unions like UNISON, recruits and represents members at all levels in the workplace, from those right at the top of the pyramid, who make decisions affecting all aspects of employment and service including health, safety and welfare, not only of employees but also in relation to how firm’s procedures affect others. Such members are the very people that should themselves be doing everything in their power to elevate such condition, in even uncomfortably warm work places, well before any imposed or non- imposed danger levels are anywhere near reached. I well understand things are not that simple for managers or even directors but legislation does not change this even if they could be applied international. Sure we desperately need better legislation and enforcement and fully support any campaign but regulation alone won’t address the root problem of lack of respect for run-of –the-mill workers.
