A man asked Imam Ali (a.s), why is it that the Quran was revealed in Arabic? And that the Prophet (saww) and his successors are all Arabs? Imam Ali (a.s) replied: Because if Allah had sent it in another language, the Arabs would have never become Muslim. So he revealed his message in their language so that they would have no excuse on the Day of Judgment. Other nations accept Prophets from other backgrounds, but the Arabs dont. Note: Arab here is referring to Quraysh, not the entire Arabic speaking population.
