A man came to me once and he told me that he just didnt love his wife any longer. So, I ask him to tell me what he was doing to be a servant to his wife and family. Well he told me all the usual junk about working hard and bringing home a paycheck to put food on the table .. yada, yada, yada. Mark 10:45 says this .. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many”. In Ephesians 5:25 we are also told Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. So if we take these two verses and apply them together, we will come to the conclusion that loving our wives has absolutely nothing to do with how we feel at the moment. Real love is about servanthood. Just as Christ loved us and was a servant to us all, we are to be a servant to our wives and family. What that fellow was really saying was that he didnt feel the same old zing anymore with respect to his wife. He was a little shocked when I suggested his problem was that he was not being a servant to his wife and that is why he didnt feel the love. Im going to say something that might surprise you .. no one can really love their wife the way God commands us to do without being a servant first, and letting God supply that love. You see, us men just dont have it in us on our own. God is the real source of true love and without him providing that love through the conduit of servanthood, you simply cant do it and you wont have it. If you are not quite feeling the love in your relationship try this .. Father, I know that Im not capable under my own power of being the kind of husband you want might wife to have. Forgive me for that. I also know that you want me to let you fill me up with total love for her. She needs it .. she wants it and I have no right to deny it to her. Help me Lord to be her servant as Christ was my servant. Fill me to overflowing Lord with an overwhelming love for her that only you can provide. Help me to submit myself to making her the most significant person in my love life and I know that you will supply all that I need to do that. In Jesus name, Amen If you really pray that prayer and mean it, God will be faithful and I promise you will find you will love your wife like you never have before. Make sure its what you want .. but be warned .. it might cost your everything.
