A man has a dream so vivid he doesnt feel as though it is himself living the dream, but he knows that it is himself. It isnt a long dream. It is an extremely powerful and emotional dream, however. In the opening scene he is in a distant past time in a far away land. He is the main character and the king of his colony. He stands on a hill at the back of the village that overlooks everything, this is a place where warriors come to be dispatched and receive his blessings before being sent into battle... The warrior/king is said to have fought so many battles his heart feels no pain and doesnt experience fear. He knows war and conflict better than he knows most anything, and he feels it like an oncoming cold that this war will be his colonies last for the enemy is far more powerful and populated. He can sense the death like the autumn winds pushing in the cold. Although he is certain of what is to come he conducts himself in a confidently precise manner. On this day soldiers come and soldiers go, but he is unprepared and surprised at what happens next... His own son at the age of 9 comes to him at his own will to be sent off and to fight for his people. At this moment he becomes a father and drops his guard. His son is his best friend, his confidant, and his blood. Be it that the boy lost his mother at a young age the king had taught the boy what it was to be a man and even as solid as the king was he knew the importance of the softness and love of a mother, so he always gave his heart to the boy in such a way that it was his own. This very special boy was also the kings only child and the only crack in his concrete that allowed love to seep through. Needless to say the king didnt want to even consider or entertain the idea of his son in battle. He walked away from his son to the edge of the hill and stands motionless alone looking out over the land and into the beautiful yet slowly darkening sky. Ashes fall from the sky from a village that is currently being burned to the ground just to the west of his. Time is closing in and is of the essence. He knows even if he holds his son back from this war he will be enslaved or murdered at its end. The king now softens and knows what needs to be done. The king turns to the boy who patiently awaits his fathers decision and blessing. Unlike most boys his age who think war is a glamorous charade that instantly makes you a man and brings you power; he knows why war is sometimes necessary, is not a game, is to be fought with respect and dignity, and is never to be taken lightly. He knows what he is in for if sent into battle even at his young age. He is also aware that his pledge is a sacrifice for his people and he is willing to die at his enemies hand not only for honor, but the respect of his father. The king is now face to face with his son. He takes a knee to be eye level with him and to pull him close as he gives him his words. The king looks straight into the boys eyes and speaks to him in a firm voice, but is careful to still project his love and says, look directly into my eyes son, look deep so you can feel my heart beat and see my soul as i speak these words to you. Pay attention to these words for they may be the last we speak to each other!... The king pauses, gathers himself, and collects his tears behind his balling throat so that his message is clear and smooth. He starts, son, people live and are destined to die no matter what kind of life they lead. My life has been devoted to these people, this village, and most importantly to you. The son begins to tear. Ive walked every day proud to be your father. My heart knows not a limit to the love it possesses for you. Ive given you every piece of my heart and soul and you can reside in me without worry or charge. You have been my lifes driving force and you have made darkness turn to light in my eyes. You are what I know of beauty and you are what I know of love. You will forever be the power behind this king and his heavy sword... I thank you for your courage and selflessness, to come here without pull to show your courage. And it is my decision to send you to battle. You will fight at my side and if death pays a visit I will be the one who answers the door. Son, I love you! If our days end I would hope that I will begin again with you on a different plane. It is an honor to be your father. One single tear rolls down the kings cheek as he pulls his son in for one last hug. The dream ends and the man wakes up weeping and sobbing like a baby. His heart is heavy and he is over taken by emotion. He now knows what he has to do. He cleans himself up and gathers his thoughts and walks in a slow yet determined manner to his car. He gets in and starts his car with a certain sure look on his face. The man drives to the hospital and walks to the childrens cancer unit, to a room where his own child lays at the cliff of his lifes end unsure wether to jump or try and walk back. The man stands in the door way, staring at his son. He takes his time to walk to the bed and kneels at the side to be eye level with his son. The boy awakens and is happy to see his daddy. He uses all his energy to reach for his dads hand and says, hi daddy! The man greets him back with a warm smile and says he has something important to tell him. Holding his sons hand and with his other hand runs his fingers through his hair, he starts. look directly into my eyes son, look deep so you can feel my heart beat and see my soul as I speak these words to you. Pay attention to these words for they may be the last we speak to each other. The boy does exactly what his father asks of him and they each feel the connection that now bonds them together, making them feel as one. The man pauses, gathers himself, and collects his tears behind his balled up throat. He then starts, son, people live and are destined to die no matter what kind of life they lead. My life has been devoted to family, my work, and most importantly you. The son begins to tear. Ive walked every day proud to be your father. My heart knows not a limit to the love it possesses for you. Ive given you every piece of my heart and soul and you can reside in me without worry or charge. You have been my lifes driving force and you have made darkness turn to light in my eyes. You are what I know of beauty and what I know of love. You will forever be the power behind ME and my heavy heart. I thank you for your courage and selflessness, to continue breathing not for yourself, but for me without pull to show your strength and devotion. It is my decision to send you into battle with your cancer. You will fight by my side and when death pays you a visit I will be the one to answer the door. Son, I love you! When your days end we WILL begin again on a different plane. It was an honor to be your father. One single tear rolls down the mans cheek as he pulls his son close and holds his head tightly against his chest. The boy listens as his fathers heart beat slowly fades. The boy now knows his fathers sacrifice and that it was granted by the deepest love.
