A man has been arrested after a house was broken into and set on fire in Oldham. At around 2am Thursday 1 January 2015, a man broke into an address on Woodleigh Road in the Austerlands area of Oldham and started a fire within the property before leaving through the back door. Emergency services were called and upon arrival at the scene, the fire service found address ablaze but were able to bring the fire under control. Police have now arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of burglary and arson with intent to endanger life. The investigation into this incident is still on-going and police are urging anybody with information is to come forward. Detective Sergeant Richard Arthern said: “This is a terrible incident which has left a family without a liveable home and seen them lose many personal and sentimental items. “The fire has caused significant damage to the property but fortunately nobody was home at the time of the fire and nobody else was injured. “This is obviously not the start to the new year that this family had in mind and our thoughts are with them at this terrible time.” Anybody with information should contact the police on 0161 856 9080 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
