A man has been charged after a man parading as a professional sportsman defrauded a Manchester nightclub out of thousands of pounds. Over the weekend of Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June 2014, a man purporting to be a Premiership footballer ran up a tab of about £5,000 at the city centre venue. The bill was paid for using compromised credit card details. Between 1st and 3rd of July 2014, a man, again purporting to be the same sportsman, attempted to buy clothing worth more than £20,000 from a Trafford Centre store but the goods were retained when staff became suspicious. On 11 August 2014, Medi Abalimba (26/05/1989), of Burton Street, London was charged with several credit card fraud offences. He appeared at Manchester and Salford magistrates court on the same morning and was remanded into custody. Anyone with information about similar frauds is asked to contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
