A man has been charged after being caught drink-driving twice in the space of several hours at Coffs Harbour yesterday morning. About 1:25am, Saturday 10 May 2014, a Nissan Pulsar was allegedly observed by Highway Patrol Officers travelling north on the Pacific Highway in excess of the 60km/h speed limit. Police conducted a u-turn and followed the car where the driver was allegedly seen to park on the side of the road and try and flee the vehicle with his five passengers. The 25-year-old man, a provisional P2 driver, was stopped by police and submitted to a roadside breath test where he returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis and allegedly returned a reading of 0.167. The man was charged with drive with high-range PCA, exceed speed over 10km/h, P2 driver convey person when no seatbelt fitted and not display p-plates. He also had his driver’s licence suspended on the spot by police before being released from custody. About 4:15am, general duties police were patrolling the Pacific Highway when they allegedly saw the same man driving his Nissan Pulsar north along the highway without its headlights on. Police stopped the car and breath tested the man where he once again returned a positive reading and was arrested. He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and underwent a second breath analysis where he allegedly returned a reading of 0.121. The man was charged with the additional offences of drive with mid-range PCA and drive while suspended. He will appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday 2 June 2014.
