A man has been charged after being detained by residents following a spate of break and enters in Sydney’s west last week. About 6:30am, Thursday 31 July 2014, a house on Thornflat Road, Cranebrook was broken into with property and a Toyota Hilux ute stolen from the premises. The next day the ute was involved in a collision on Dunheved Road, Werrington where the driver ran from scene. About 6:30am the same day (Friday 1 August 2014), a woman was inside her house on Susanne Place at Cambridge Park when she discovered the premises had been broken into. She went outside and allegedly saw a man sitting in the driver’s seat of her ute and attempting to start the vehicle. The woman confronted the man and was allegedly punched in the face a number of times before the man ran off with some of her property. Police will allege later in the morning the same man broke into a house on William Street, Cambridge Park while the elderly occupants were home. Upon discovering their house had been broken into the 77-year-old man and 81-year-old woman exited the property and were allegedly confronted by the man in the backyard. The man allegedly kicked the 77-year-old in the stomach before jumping the fence and running off. He was later seen standing on the roof of a house in Sutton Road and police were contacted. Police will allege the man ran through a number of properties before entering the rear yard of a house on Campton Avenue, Cambridge Park. The occupants, two men aged 23 and 51, confronted the man where they were allegedly assaulted including being punched in the face. They were able to restrain the man until police arrived. Officers from St Marys Local Area Command attended the scene and arrested the 19-year-old man. He was charged with a number of offences including aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, enter building with intent to commit indictable offence, enter enclosed lands, common assault and take and drive conveyance. The Penrith man was refused bail and appeared in Parramatta Bail Court on the weekend where he was remanded in custody to appear in Penrith Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 5 August 2014).
