A man has been charged after cannabis plants were seized during a search warrant in Canley Vale. Strike Force Zambesi, comprising officers from South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squads, Wetherill Park and Bass Hill, was established in April 2011 to target the hydroponic cultivation of cannabis in the region. Just before 9am yesterday (Thursday 5 June 2014), officers attached to Strike Force Zambesi executed a search warrant at a home on Malabar Street. Police allegedly located cannabis plants with an estimated potential street value of $160,000, an indoor hydroponic set-up, an electrical by-pass and what is believed to be a can of mace. A 47-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Fairfield Police Station, where he was charged with: • Enhanced indoor cultivation plant for commercial purpose, • Found on drug premises, • Organise drug premises, • Steal electricity, • Deal with property suspected proceeds of crime and, • Posses or use a prohibited weapon without permit. He was refused bail and appeared at Fairfield Local Court yesterday, to reappear at Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday 30 July 2014.
