A man has been charged over an alleged assault and dangerous driving in Coffs Harbour overnight. About 9pm (Sunday 25 January 2015), a 27-year-old man attended a car park on Ocean Parade at Coffs Harbour where he allegedly assaulted a 21-year-old woman. The man then returned to his vehicle and drove a short distance to Vincent Street where it’s alleged he drove into the front of a unit block. It’s further alleged the man then attempted to hit a member of the public who’d witnesses the crash. Officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command attended the location and became involved in a foot pursuit with the man through bushland near Ocean Parade. Police arrested the man a short time later and he was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station. A crime scene was established at the residence on Vincent Street and the vehicle was seized from the nearby car park and taken for forensic examination. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries and she has since been discharged. The man was later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contravene AVO, destroy or damage property, drive while licence cancelled, drive in a manner dangerous, negligent driving and armed with intent to commit indictable offence. He was refused bail and appeared before Coffs Harbour Bail Court today, where he was remanded in custody to reappear tomorrow (Tuesday 27 January 2015).
